Main Post:
Do you think some banned games from the past could be revisited & unbanned?
Top Comment: Carmageddon... Where they were ppl at first like GTA and bled red... Had to be censored in some countries, they just made them zombies with green blood. Censoring games is stupid... So is banning books...

What is the deal with Ban Video Games, G*mers and similar trends on Reddit?
Main Post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/BanVideoGames/
Over the past couple of weeks, I've began to see references to r/BanVideoGames on multiple subs as well as an increase in the use of 'G*mers' as a pejorative. I'm assuming this is all somewhat satirical, mocking both those who claim video games are evil and lead to violence and what have you and some gamers that contribute to that perception but then again I wouldn't be surprised if it did have some serious roots knowing how many reports of video games corrupting children and the like that you see floating around. Is it ultimately a joke? Does 'G*mer' refer to all that game or just those gamers (the neck beards, the basement dwellers, the niceguys etc.)? Have, by asking these questions, I fallen into the very trap that this was all created for? Am I a G*mer with my advanced skills in Animal Crossing and Mario Kart? Or is it a title reserved only for those that reside in the likes of CS:GO and LoL? Does it have multiple layers where some people use it as a joke but others have been serious about it? I have no idea.
Edit: So I thought this was resolved but now am getting some conflicting answers (one of which was from a very helpful PM so can't be seen here) so don't really feel any the wiser!
Edit 2: Should have included this in the first edit: the PM suggested that the movement was serious, a backlash to a minority of gamers who are sexist, racist and in other ways problematic that have created a bad name for gaming as a whole despite not representing the majority.
Edit 3: Going to go with it's satirical but does touch on a real issue of racism, sexism and general nastiness amongst a few gamers, hence why some people will take it seriously even if that is not the overall intention or origin of the trend. Thanks for all the responses! :)

Answer: it’s satire, quick look at the posts and you will see.
I’m pretty sure a few on the sub genuinely hate gamers but other than that I’m pretty sure 99% of the people on there don’t actually hate gamers.

Shit headline . Hawley’s bill would prohibit loot boxes and other gambling schemes in games ‘targeted towards children.’ It isn’t some blanket ban on some vague term.
Obviously satirical subreddit about "banning video games" springs up and spreads jokes about gamers, is promptly brigaded en masse by hundreds, if not thousands of r/teenagers users and other assorted children.

Top Comment: I feel like some of those brigaders have to be satirical as well at this point. The sub gets bonus points for its rules though: 2. No Violence Stick to something positive like labor camps with a living wage and full bennies

What games have your gaming groups banned and why?
Main Post:
I love Betrayal at House on the Hill. I've played it dozens of times. However, it's been banned in one of my gaming groups because of just one game. I'll explain.
We were fighting a dragon. We needed to find an item to have a chance to defeat the dragon. We were playing a full group (6 players), and so we had 5 of us searching for the item while the dragon and traitor did their thing. We needed to buy some time, which would require a losing fight against the dragon to slow it down. My character was the strong one with the best chance at fighting once we found the item, so it didn't make sense for me to sacrifice myself. So, logically minded that I am, I asked the weakest character to sacrifice herself for the good of the team. That character belonged to my sister. She got soooooooo mad that I'd ask her to do that. She refused. I tried to reason with her, and she got even more mad. I don't even remember if we won or lost that game. All I know now is that we can never play Betrayal at House on the Hill again (with her).

Rockstar can apparently ban people from playing any game integrated with R* Social Club, single-player content included. What does this mean for the 'ownership' of games?
Main Post:
The original thread detailing this can be found over here, but these are the parts that really stood out:
At least I can still play single player...
Nope.avi. You need to log into social club to get to the "play offline" bit. I have had my single player experience taken away from me too, £40 down the drain!
...
I asked myself, "no... I cannot be banned from playing Max Payne as well...". Yep.
Lucky me, I haven't linked Max Payne with my account yet. I could just create a new account, right?. Look at that playtime, I haven't even played FiveMinutes of it.
I can't play any Rockstar game that works with the social club. Ever.
Simply put, Rockstar has the ability to permanently ban people from playing any title that's integrated with Social Club, including single player content. I've occasionally seen people express concern over whether we actually own games the games we buy, and to me this seems to be proving that we're just 'licensing' them.
What does r/Games think of this? Of course, multiplayer bans are generally acceptable, but should devs be allowed to ban access to single-player content as well? Furthermore, what does this say about the issue of licensing vs. ownership of games, considering that this impacts physical copies as well?
Top Comment: If you live in the EU and this has affected you please take a look at This comment i made which will help you get a full refund for this type of behavior. Within the EU it is Illegal to remove full access to a game. If they wish to ban you from online thats fine but single player is a BIG fucking no no.
